Evacuation drills
We also run evacuation drills.
This requirement for practical verification of readiness for, and conduct of, evacuation ensues from section 17 of the Regulation by the Ministry of Interior of 07/06/2010 on fire safety of buildings and other structures and areas:
- The owner or administrator of a facility intended for more than 50 regular occupants, included in a threat category other than “ZL IV”, should run an evacuation drill for the whole facility at least once every 2 years.
- For a facility with a simultaneous change of more than 50 users (such as schools, kindergartens, dormitories, etc.) such a drill should be arranged for at least once every year, always within 3 months from the arrival of new users.
- For a facility including a “ZL II” threat category zone or for a prison/arrest building the area covered by the drill has to be agreed on with a county/city commander of the National Fire Service with relevant geographic jurisdiction.
- The owner or administrator has to advise the competent NFS commander of the timing of each drill at least one week in advance.
Each drill is followed by a report with conclusions serving as a basis for developing improvement recommendations for the facility owner or administrator.
