Fire signaling systems

Fire signaling systems detect, and warn people about, fires as early as possible after the fire breakout. They are used to protect people and property.

Applicable building and safety codes require provision and govern the use of such systems.

A fire signaling system performs the following main tasks:

  • Detects immediately and reliably the onset of a fire before it can propagate to an extent difficult to control, which provides more time for evacuating the site an safeguarding the property
  • Controls other systems and equipment: smoke extraction units, gate valves and fans; access controls; escape elevators; evacuation door locks; automatic fire extinguishers; etc.
  • Captures feedback from the foregoing systems and equipment.

Main components of a fire signaling system:

  • Central fire signaling unit
  • Fire detectors
  • Manual fire alert buttons
  • Control modules
  • Signaling devices

The fire signaling system is based on distributed fire detectors responding to local presence of smoke or fire or to temperature buildup. Each triggered detector reports its abnormal state to the central unit that forwards the alert signal to competent services. These automatic fire detectors are backed up with manual fire alert buttons distributed along vehicle and pedestrian passages. The fire signaling system can also call the nearest rescue and fire service depot.

The designing of a fire signaling system requires good engineering know-how and practical experience. It is important to select components and layout for the system, including the computer server room, correct for the target facility.

We can offer value-added assistance for any project stage, starting from the initial site visit and risk assessment, through the design and installation work, ending with technical support and maintenance of the systems in place.
