Tunnels
Fire-proofing for transit tunnels
Because fire can propagate very rapidly in a tunnel, producing very large quantities of smoke and a temperature exceeding 1,000°C, technologies were developed for tunnel protection, evacuation and extinguishing such facilities.
One of the protection methods consists of lining tunnel structures with refractory panels for co
ncrete protection against cracking off and against permeation of combustion gases after the brea
kout of a fire. During normal operation of the tunnel, the lining seals off the structures against cont
amination and moisture,
which definitely extends the lifetime of the facility.
Our business related to protections for tunnels includes fire-proofing them with:
- FENDOLITE MII spray-on fire-proofing mortar;
- PROMATECT T and PROMATECT H panels for walls and ceilings;
- PROMATECT T and PROMATECT H panels for power supply, ventilation and smoke extraction systems;
- seals for expansion joints.
FENDOLITE MII fire protection system
Products: FENDOLITE MII fire-proofing mortar
The mortar is manufactured in the form of a dry mix of vermiculite, Portland cement and modifying additives. The material efficiently protects concrete against rapid temperature buildup and the resulting cracking. Using a light reinforcing mesh is recommended to extend the lifetime of the protection
Benefits:
- No emission of toxic or hazardous fumes,
- easy to use and apply,
- no biodegradation,
- high quality and long lifetime of fire protection,
- excellent durability and resistance to physical damage,
- thin fire-proofing coat,
- good tolerance of multiple icing and de-icing cycles,
- suitable for application on ferroconcrete unit fabrication or at the construction site,
- suitable for increased humidity environments.
PROMATECT T panels
These are silicate-calcium-aluminium panels designed for fire-proofing tunnels, featuring excellent insulating properties and resistance to high temperature buildup. Apart from the excellent fire-proofing efficiency, the panels display a number of properties essential to the daily operation of a tunnel.
Benefits:
- Particular suitability for installation on curved ceilings and walls,
- outstanding stability and good physical properties in high temperature,
- durability for long lifetime,
- very agreeable appearance,
- easy to apply and workable,
- capacity to withstand overload from suction forces,
- resistance to moisture and abrasion,
- good tolerance of multiple icing and de-icing cycles,
- resistance to road de-icing salts,
- easy disassembly for tunnel structure inspection.
PROMATECT H panels
These are refractory silicate-cement panels with mineral filling, featuring excellent insulating properties and resistance to high temperature buildup. Apart from the excellent fire-proofing efficiency, the panels display a number
of properties essential to the daily operation of a tunnel.
Benefits:
- Outstanding stability and good physical properties in high temperature,
- durability for long lifetime,
- very agreeable appearance,
- easy to apply and workable,
- capacity to withstand overload from suction forces,
- resistance to moisture and abrasion,
- good tolerance of multiple icing and de-icing cycles,
- resistance to road de-icing salts,
- easy disassembly for tunnel structure inspection,
- protection for systems, equipment and cable trays for reliable operation in the event of fire.
